We're Katie and BJ, and we serve as mentors for newly engaged couples in the Two to One program.
We began serving in Two to One when the InsideOut students we had been leading for four years went off to college without us! We loved the idea of our marriage being our ministry and secretly hoped that by becoming premarital mentors, we might get the opportunity to walk alongside those same students down the road when they entered a new season of life someday.
It is incredibly rewarding to mentor couples who are actively seeking to make their marriages strong right from the beginning! We love sharing stories of what God has taught us in our 17 years of marriage (the good, the bad, and yes, even the ugly stories) and encouraging couples that marriage is the best kind of hard work. The tools we teach engaged couples even help strengthen our own marriage. Andy always says that following Jesus makes you better at life and makes your life better, and that's certainly true when it comes to marriage!
Five years into this volunteer gig, we even got our wish—and now we've had the awesome privilege of mentoring two former students as they prepared for marriage!
