Session Eight

Roles and Expectations

Everyone enters into marriage with expectations. They may include where you’ll live, how you’ll spend time together, how many children you’ll have, and what your sex life will be like. Having desires about your marriage is normal. In fact, dreaming about the future can be a good thing. The problem is that our desires and expectations are often wrapped up in the word “I.”

If you’re primarily concerned with your desires and expectations, it will create challenges in your marriage. That’s because marriage involves another person—an individual with a potentially different set of desires and expectations.
